Camelback Resort Celebrates 60 Years

Pennsylvania’s Camelback Resort is celebrating its 60th season this winter, and that celebration will kick into high gear on Saturday, January 27, 2024 with a special event at the Thirsty Camel Bar & Grilled. From 1 to 5 p.m., the Pocono Mountains resort will be spinning tunes, showcase an ice sculpture, provide fun activities for kids such as wooden snowflake painting, and more. A 60x8-foot mural by Pennsylvania artist Evan Hughes will be unveiled, illustrating the day- and night-time activities available at Camelback. Camelback will also be offering 60th Anniversary swag to commemorate the milestone.

As it celebrates its history, Camelback Resort is also moving forward with cutting-edge technology. This winter, it became the first ski resort to incorporate Amazon’s Just Walk Out Technology in its Big Pocono On The Go shop, which allows visitors to purchase items by scanning the resort app, grabbing their desired items, and simply walking out the door.

Camelback also unveiled new or expanded dining options this winter including Chuck’s Spud Shack, Rakuda Ramen, and Rise & Grind Coffee.

Vail Resorts Provides Update on Environmental and Social Responsibility Efforts

On January 23, 2024, Vail Resorts released its 2022-2023 Environment & Social Responsibility Report, which tracks its progress in initiatives such as reducing the energy footprint of its resorts. In 2017, Vail Resorts announced its Commitment to Zero plan, which aims to achieve a zero net operating footprint by 2030, including zero net emissions, zero waste to landfill, and zero net operating impact to forests and habitat.

The report released this week shows that Vail Resorts is ahead of schedule to reach its emission goals, and on track for the broader goal of reaching a zero net operating footprint by 2030.

For the second year in a row, Vail Resorts achieve 100% renewable electricity use across its 37 North American resorts. It reduced landfill waste by 6.1 million pounds (36%) from its baseline. It has also made $10 million in on-mountain energy-saving investments since 2018.

Last year, Vail Resorts hosted nearly 11,300 underrepresented youth at its resorts, drawing from cities such as New York City, Boston, Baltimore, Chicago, CLeveland, and Detroit. It partnered with 53 nonprofits to support adaptive programming across 30 resorts, and donated more than $29 million in community and employee grants to support affordable childcare, housing, mental health care, disaster relief, and more.

“We care deeply about our people, the mountains that we have the privilege to live, work, and play within, and the future of our industry,” said Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch. “Our responsibility work is rooted in our commitment to the future. This comes to life through our bold sustainability goals and using our voice to drive action on climate change; programs to expand access to our sport; and support for our employees and mountain resort communities,” she added.

Vail Resorts employs 55,000 people across its properties.
